Dear Genet Families!

We had a wonderful time with all the excitement of Halloween last week! Genet’s Halloween Parade was wonderful for the school community and it made extra special for our students for all the families that were able to attend. I want to thank Mr. Bresnahan and the 8th Grade Band from Goff Middle School who were able to attend and perform for our parade. Thank you to our PTO for taking pictures and sharing them with us.

It is unreal to think that November is already here. Even with the warmer weather the past two weeks, this weekend looks to take a dip to the cooler side. Please send your child(ren) in with appropriate attire for outdoor recess. Student will have outdoor recess, even during the winter months, as long as the wind chill and air temperatures stay above 20 degrees.

This week Genet is looking forward to recognizing the service and dedication of Veterans within our community. We are looking forward to holding an in-person Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 10th starting at 9:30 AM in the Genet Auditorium. There is more information for those attending and for students found below.

Last Friday, we were treated to a special presentation by our 5th Grade Team and students on Citizenship. Citizenship is our Character Education Trait for the month of November. We even learned of a song that students shared that was written by Mr. Scher who is aspiring for an American Music Award in his spare time. The Genet Team is looking forward to recognizing students demonstrating this trait over the month of November. Students will be recognized at this month’s closing Character Education assembly on Friday, November 18th.

Here are a few important updates for families:

Parent-Teacher Conferences:

Our first Parent-Teacher Conference date is scheduled for Tuesday, November 29th. If you have not yet scheduled a time to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss their academic progress, please reach as soon as possible.

Food Pantry Raffle Winner:

First, thank you to all of our families who brought a food donation to our Trunk or Treat for our Backpack Program. Your generosity is truly overwhelming! The PTO has asked me to share that the winner of the Food Pantry Donation Raffle is 5105121. If you have the ticket matching this number, please reach out to our PTO by emailing GenetPTO@gmail.com to arrange the pickup of your prize!

Attendance Matters:

Going to school every day, on time and ready to learn is the first step to doing well academically. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school is important. If your child is healthy, they should be in school. Here is a hyperlink with additional information: Attendance Matters.

Students that are high in absences will be receiving phone calls from Genet regarding the number and how their child is on a pathway towards being considered chronically absent. A formal letter will also accompany any contact from the school from the Principal. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to either Genet’s Social Worker (Ms. Di Gregorio) or myself.

COVID-19:

We are seeing an uptick in COVID-19 cases for students and staff, which is consistent with what is happening in the Capital Region. Please take the necessary steps to protect your child and others from COVID-19. If your child is showing symptoms of COVID-19, keep them home and Mrs. Condo by calling 518-207-2684.

Each of our schools are offering free COVID-19 test kits students and their families. Contact your child’s school if you would like any COVID test kits.

Thank you for your continued support of Genet! Have a wonderful week ahead!

Sincerely,

Wayne Grignon
Principal
