Second graders at Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School hosted a poetry slam in the school library on Friday, reading aloud their original poems about family, pets, the weather and more.
Students had been learning about poetry in class and wrote their own poems during the unit of study. They also used technology skills learned in library class to make introduction and background slides to display while reading the poems to their classmates.
“The students were so excited and proud to share their poems with family and friends,” said 2nd grade teachers Stephanie Gardinier and Jenna VanRoy. “The poetry slam was a big success.”
