The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Administration Conference Room, 29 Englewood Ave., East Greenbush, NY 12061.
As part of the meeting’s agenda, there is a resolution to adopt the 2023-24 District-wide Safety Plan. The plan outlines the school district’s response to emergencies, the types of safety drills to be completed each year and the School Resource Officer agreements.
The Safety Plan must be approved by the Board of Education following public review, which was open to public comment from July 13 through August 13.
The school district received feedback during the public comment period, which included questions and comments about lockdown procedures when students are on school buses. Those procedures were updated in the weeks following the March 30 lockdown and are already included in building level safety plans, which are kept confidential for security purposes.
An update to the draft 2023-24 Safety Plan includes consideration of installing additional panic buttons in schools, in compliance with Alyssa’s Law (page 11). District staff attended NYS safety planning training this summer and continue to evaluate its plans including consideration of installing panic buttons in schools to complement its existing emergency notification technologies.
Other items on the meeting agenda include:
- Genet Playground Project
- Agreement with START Children’s Center for Family Intervention Specialist
- School Resource Officer Agreements
- Appointment of District-wide Safety Team Members
