Students walking through hallway at Goff Middle School

Incoming 6th graders take a tour of Howard L. Goff Middle School at 6th Grade and New Student Orientation on Thursday, August 24.

Anticipation turned into excitement on Thursday morning as students were welcomed to 6th Grade and New Student Orientation at Howard L. Goff Middle School. The students gathered in the cafeteria to meet administrators and key staff, learn about the school and student expectations, and review their class schedules.

Students had the opportunity to tour their new school and practice opening their lockers. They also enjoyed lunch together as they met students from other elementary schools and reconnected with old friends.

“It was great to meet so many of our new middle school students at orientation,” said Interim Principal James McHugh. “The transition to middle school often creates some anxiety for students and families. We emphasized that each year approximately 300 or more students successfully make this transition and that our Goff faculty and staff would be actively welcoming and supporting our students when they arrive in September. We will help our students open lockers, understand their schedules, locate classrooms, and successfully navigate the demands of middle school.”

Students can return to Goff next week (see times below) with a parent/guardian to continue practice opening their lockers and to bring in any school supplies.

  • Tuesday, August 29 from 8:00-10:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, August 30 from 12:00-2:00 p.m.

The first day of school is scheduled for Thursday, September 7.
