School Budget Vote and Board Election - May 21

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a school budget for 2024-25 that maintains all programs and services with a 0.55% tax levy increase, which is within the NYS Property Tax Cap. Residents will also vote on a $116 million capital project that would improve school facilities and grounds across the district with no impact to local taxpayers, the replacement of eight school buses, which if approved by voters, will be fully paid for by the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund, and elect three individuals to the Board of Education.

The front hallway and offices at Howard L. Goff Middle School were flooded with water early Saturday morning due to the storm overnight. Sewer drains in the Goff parking lot became overwhelmed which led to the water entering school.

The Goff maintenance staff, assisted by the facilities department and custodians from other schools, responded to the situation overnight to begin the clean up process. Due to their quick response, school will be open on Monday as normal.

Affected areas included the front hallway, front offices, cafeteria, custodial offices and the Red House hallway going down past the library. The library was largely unaffected.

The fire department also responded Saturday morning but was not needed to pump out water.

By 10:00 p.m., most of the water was gone and Quick Response arrived to assist with drying out the building and prevent development of mold.

“Our folks worked well into the morning to clean up all of the water, shampoo carpets, etc.,” Interim Principal James McHugh wrote in an email to Goff staff. “We will be ready to open our doors on Monday. A huge shout out to our maintenance team who put in a very long work day!”
