School Budget Vote and Board Election - May 21

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a school budget for 2024-25 that maintains all programs and services with a 0.55% tax levy increase, which is within the NYS Property Tax Cap. Residents will also vote on a $116 million capital project that would improve school facilities and grounds across the district with no impact to local taxpayers, the replacement of eight school buses, which if approved by voters, will be fully paid for by the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund, and elect three individuals to the Board of Education.

The East Greenbush Central School District celebrated School Board Recognition Week at its public Board of Education meeting on Wednesday evening. The nine volunteer members of the school board received gift bags from central administration and Bell Top Elementary School students, where the meeting was hosted.

During the meeting, fifth graders Jazmarie Garcia and Kyle Rodgers addressed the board and thanked them for their service.

“Our classes learned about what you do as volunteers and we appreciate all of the time and talent you give to create a positive learning environment for all students,” Ms. Garcia said to the board.

Ms. Garcia and Mr. Rodgers then distributed gift bags with personalized ornament wooden bells and thank you cards to the board members. Bell Top staff also provided refreshments for the meeting, including homemade cupcakes baked by Kitchen Manager Pamela Corellis.

Board president Michael Buono discussed the importance of community service, addressing a group of Participation in Government students from Columbia High School who were in attendance at the meeting.

“I hope from this occasion you think about civics and what happens in government, and this is a small part of giving back to your community,” Mr. Buono said. “As a lot of you ask that question … ‘Why do we do what we do?’ Because we love our community and we love the opportunities we can give to children.”

Thank you to our Board of Education!
