DPS Kindergarten Teacher Shondra Conyers

Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher Shondra Conyers was selected to the NYS Master Teacher Program.

Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School kindergarten teacher Shondra Conyers was selected as a NYS Master Teacher this past fall. She is one of 10 educators selected to the program from the Capital Region.

As a NYS Master Teacher, Mrs. Conyers will participate in STEM professional development and attend leadership workshops over the next four years. She met with her NYS Master Teacher colleagues for the first time last month, and she has already attended a Math for America workshop that focused on space, a literacy in STEM conference and STEM and Nanotechnology Family Day at UAlbany.

“You can pick and choose,” she said of the professional development offerings. “I’m new, so I’m grabbing everything that I can now to immerse myself in it and meet as many people as I can.”

The Master Teacher Program was launched in 2013 in partnership with The State University of New York and Math for America to “strengthen our nation’s K-12 STEM education.”

Mrs. Conyers has taught at DPS for 20 years. She said she is excited to attend workshops and collaborate with other teachers from the region so she can integrate more STEM into her instruction.

“There’s always a way to grow and get better,” said Mrs. Conyers.

Mrs. Conyers is the sixth teacher from the East Greenbush Central School District to be selected as a NYS Master Teacher (Diana Prout, Jessica Hladik, Heidi Gleason, Tom Ross, Sue Schreck).

Congratulations!
