Students act on stage during a dress rehearsal of Peter Pan Jr.

Goff Middle School 8th grader Emma Leyhane as Peter Pan in a dress rehearsal of Goff Drama Club’s production of Peter Pan Jr.

Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the Darling children are off to Neverland in the Goff Drama Club’s production of “Peter Pan Jr.” this weekend. Performances are scheduled for Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Columbia High School auditorium.

The 60-minute musical, designed for middle-school aged performers, is based on J.M. Barrie’s enchanting play, Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. “Peter Pan Jr.” is a modern version of the timeless tale about the adventures of a mischievous boy.

The Goff Drama Club cast and crew of 75 students is led by Lorraine LaVoie, Rebecca Stevens, Jean Hirt and Andrea Lubbers. Dress rehearsals began this week.

Eighth grader Emma Leyhane plays the title role of Peter Pan. She is excited to perform in front of an audience after months of preparation that has included learning lines, songs and sword fighting.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work and effort and it will be a really good play to watch,” she said.

Eighth grader Tristan Henderson is cast as the dreaded Captain Hook who will stop at nothing to seek revenge on Peter Pan. It’s a role he wanted.

“It’s fun,” he said. “It’s nice being a part of this and working with all of these people. Everyone looks great. It should be a great show.”

Performances of Peter Pan Jr. are open to the public. Tickets will be sold at the door and cost $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. (Students must be accompanied by an adult.)
