Howard L. Goff Middle School students, teachers and staff celebrated math on Thursday in tribute to Pi (π), the ratio that begins with 3.14.
Sixth grade students in Sandy Yovine and Lori Bishop’s period 2 math classes formed a 3.14 behind school and measured the diameter of the human circle. They also measured the diameter, radius and circumference of cans that were collected for the Math Department’s Pi Day can drive to support local food pantries.

Later in the school day, students who participated in a Pi Day recitation contest pressed pies into the faces of teachers and staff in the cafeteria. Students roared as the pie crusts fell to the floor and filling stuck to the faces of staff members. Congratulations to 8th grader Lydia Hall who remembered the most digits of Pi with 211.
“We had great participation from so many students and it looked like everyone had a good time,” said Goff 8th Grade Math Teacher Morgan Rowse, who organized the activity.
Special thanks to the Goff Math Teachers, Market 32 for donating the pies and the custodians!
