The East Greenbush Central School District appointed Mike Neumann as the next principal of Bell Top Elementary School at the public Board of Education meeting on Wednesday evening.
Mr. Neumann has served as an assistant principal at Howard L. Goff Middle School since 2015. He will start his new position at Bell Top on July 1, succeeding Principal Martin Mahar who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Mr. Neumann was recommended for the position by Superintendent Jeff Simons after a committee represented by teachers, staff, administrators and Bell Top parents interviewed a pool of candidates.
“Mike Neumann was selected from a pool of more than 60 well qualified applicants,” Mr. Simons said. “Mike’s a leader who makes decisions in the best interests of students. He will do a terrific job leading the Bell Top School community.”
At Goff, Mr. Neumann currently serves as the 8th grade house principal and administrator of the MAP and Jumpstart 6 programs. He also oversees scheduling, serves on various committees including the Instructional Support Team, Technology Committee and Health and Safety Committee, and he coordinates the 8th Grade Washington D.C. Field Trip.
Mr. Neumann served as principal of the K-8 Elevate Summer School program last year, overseeing 240 students and supervising 23 teachers and 11 staff.
Prior to working in the East Greenbush CSD, Mr. Neumann taught math at Troy Middle School. He also served on the school leadership team and as a data liaison.
“I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue my career in East Greenbush as Bell Top Elementary School Principal,” Mr. Neumann said. “The East Greenbush Central School District has been incredibly supportive of me and my family over many years. I look forward to contributing to the tradition of success and working closely with the students, staff and families at Bell Top.”
Mr. Neumann has a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport, a master’s degree from SUNY Albany and his school building leader certification from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
