Mrs. Snyder assisting studentsEast Greenbush Central School District is launching its Lighthouse 1:1 Chromebook Program for grades 3 through 12 when the new school year starts in September.

Students in grades 3-5 will make use of their own dedicated Chromebook computer (supplied by the school district) in their classrooms. The devices will stay at school and be ready every day for student use. Students in grades 6-12 will be permitted to take their Chromebook home and are required to bring it in each day. This will give our students unprecedented access to web-based resources, learning websites, 21st century content, and socially-based learning techniques. In short, students will be afforded the use of a very valuable tool for learning.

In preparation for the new school year, the district will hold a series of “Kick-Off Meetings” for students entering grades 6-12 and their parents in August to discuss expectations and responsibilities of the program and how they relate to the East Greenbush Central School District’s Code of Conduct. During these mandatory meetings, the Chromebook devices, power cords and protective sleeves will be distributed to students.

As we anticipate parent and student questions regarding the liability for potential damage to these devices, an optional enrollment in a Chromebook Maintenance Program will be available as well.

Please see the following table of dates below. If you are unable to attend your assigned night, please email Director of Technology Peter Goodwin at goodwinpe@egcsd.org with the date that you will be able to attend. If at all possible, please try to attend the night scheduled for your child’s grade. If you have more than one child enrolled in the district, then select one night and email that to Mr. Goodwin. All meetings are scheduled for the Columbia High School Auditorium.

Our students already excel in the classroom.  We have seen our teachers use the technology they already have in innovative and impactful ways. By placing these 21st century learning tools in the hands of our students, the district will support and encourage a cloud-based instructional approach to further this vision. Our “lighthouse” will be a clear and present beacon, pointing the way for students to advance themselves and to locate pathways which lead to success.
