First graders became Mario and Luigi as part of a fun and creative ELA lesson in Val Santillo’s class at Red Mill last week. The students wore mustaches just like the video game characters and moved through four different levels to try and save Princess Peach in their own Super Mario World.
Each of the levels focused on ELA skills:
- Level 1: Sentence Structure
- Level 2: Noun/Adjective Card Sort
- Level 3: Vocabulary
- Level 4: Main Idea
“Each level became more difficult, but each of them rose to the challenge,” Mrs. Santillo said. “I’ve never seen them so motivated.”
