REMINDER: SPRING SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR THIS WEEK!:

Starting Monday, May 10th and running through May 14th, Genet welcomes the Buy One, Get One Scholastic Book Fair for our students. Flyers were sent home last week with your child(ren). As mentioned previously, students will go to the book fair during their scheduled Library Time. Attached is a downloadable schedule for you to review during the book fair and payment options: Genet Spring Book Fair Schedule. Parents can send students in with either money or create a Scholastic e-wallet for their child(ren) to use. Please note that if any money is left in the e-wallet, it will be convereted into Scholastic Bucks that can be used to shop online at Scholastic.com.  If you are sending your child in with money, please place it in a baggie or envelop with their name (first and last) on it – just out of precaution it is dropped. I would like to ask that small bills be sent in with your child to make purchases. Thank you in advance!

For our families that have students on full remote and would like to participate, we have designated an evening for you to attend on Wednesday, May 12th with your students from 3:30 – 5:30 PM. The book fair will be located in the Main Lobby of Genet.

If you have any questions regarding the book fair, please feel free to email Mrs. Garno or our PTO by emailing genetelementarybookfair@gmail.com.

National Fitness Month Kicks Off at Genet

Genet’s Fourth Grade Team has kicked off National Fitness Month for May at school! This will take place each Workout Wednesday. Staff and students are invited to wear fitness clothing to school on Wednesday during the month of May to celebrate. Students were sent home last week with a flyer of information and a sheet of sneakers. Each sneaker represents 30 minutes of exercise. Every time your child engages in a form of physical activity, have them write their name, grade level, and activity on the sneaker. Students can cut it out and decorate each sneaker which will be hung up around Genet. Additional sneakers can be picked up in the Genet Main Office. I have attached the flyer in pdf format here for you to download: National Fitness Month at Genet.

Farm to Families Food Distribution:

Our Capital District YMCA will be hosting its second food distribution event in the month of May in Rensselaer County. They will be holding the event on Monday, May 24 at the Troy YMCA just off Hoosick Street. Attached is a flyer that you can download and review: Troy YMCA Farm to Table Flyer.

5th Grade Visit to Goff Middle School:

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021 our 5th graders will take a field trip to Howard L. Goff Middle School at 9:15 AM. Permission slips were sent home this week with students. Please complete and return those as soon as possible. Students will receive a tour of the building by Goff Administration, teachers and guidance counselors. They will also have a presentation that will highlight the transition from 5th to 6th grade and outline how it will be different from their elementary school.

Remote students in 5th grade will also be able to attend on that day at the same time. Parents can drop their child off at the main entrance for Goff Middle School and be picked up 1 hour later.

If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, Goff Middle School or myself.
