Capital Project

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a $116 million capital project that, if approved by voters, would improve facilities and grounds at all seven schools at no additional cost to the local taxpayer. The proposed capital project will be a proposition on the School Budget Vote and Board Election ballot scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Green Meadow National Blue Ribbon SchoolGreen Meadow Elementary School was named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education on Tuesday morning. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona made the announcement during his Return to School Road Trip, while visiting an awardee school, Walter R. Sundling Jr. High School, in Palatine, Illinois.

The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

Green Meadow is one of only 325 schools in the country, including one of 19 schools in New York to receive the 2021 National Blue Ribbon School award.

“This year’s cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school cultures where rich teaching and learning can flourish,” said Secretary Cardona. “I commend all our Blue Ribbon honorees for working to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. In the face of unprecedented circumstances, you found creative ways to engage, care for, protect, and teach our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have so much to offer and can serve as a model for other schools and communities so that we can truly build back better.”

The U.S. Department of Education recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates:

  • Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
  • Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students.

Green Meadow was selected as an Exemplary High-Performing School.

“We are truly honored and excited to be recognized as a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School,” said Green Meadow Principal Daniel Garab. “I am so proud of our students, staff and the greater Green Meadow community for earning this national award. This is a reflection of the true sense of teamwork that we have here at Green Meadow.”

This is the second school in the East Greenbush Central School District to be named a National Blue Ribbon School (Red Mill Elementary School – 2011).

“The district is extremely proud of Green Meadow Elementary School,” said Superintendent Jeff Simons. “Through the leadership of Mr. Garab and the contributions of all of the teachers, staff, PTO leaders and all of the parents, the school excels at offering a positive climate for all children to learn and flourish.”

Congratulations to Green Meadow students, teachers, staff and families!
