Goff Middle School student Myint Aung won a national Scholastic Writing Contest earlier this month for his essay in response to the article “The Great Chicago Fire” by Lauren Tarshis. Mr. Aung and his classmates read the article in English class in October.

“Myint took the initiative to work on his essay, show it to me, and use feedback to improve it,” said Goff English teacher Monica Barnes. “He also used many of the writing strategies we work on in class.”

Mr. Aung placed first out of 67 students from across the country who entered the contest. As a prize for winning the contest, Mr. Aung received a copy of the book “The Great Fire” by Jim Murphy last week.

Congratulations!
