School Budget Vote and Board Election - May 21

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a school budget for 2024-25 that maintains all programs and services with a 0.55% tax levy increase, which is within the NYS Property Tax Cap. Residents will also vote on a $116 million capital project that would improve school facilities and grounds across the district with no impact to local taxpayers, the replacement of eight school buses, which if approved by voters, will be fully paid for by the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund, and elect three individuals to the Board of Education.

The East Greenbush Central School District presented its preliminary school budget for 2023-24 at Wednesday evening’s Board of Education meeting in the Central Administration Board Room. The preliminary budget estimate is $109,104,754, which carries a tax levy increase of 1.0%. The district has had no tax levy increase the past two years.

District administrators are continuing to review revenues and expenditures as part of the budget planning process, so the current figures may change before a proposed school budget is voted on by residents in May.

The preliminary budget maintains all current programs and services, and includes staffing additions, technology upgrades, facility improvements and funding to continue the Pre-K Program.

“The district is in the early stages of development of the school budget for 2023-24,” said Superintendent Jeff Simons. “During the next few weeks as we confirm more information about our costs for next year and anticipate the finalization of the state budget, we encourage all members of our community to follow the developments through either checking our website or attending a Board of Education meeting.”

The Budget Vote and Board Election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16.

In addition to the school budget, voters will decide on a proposition for school bus replacements and select three members for the Board of Education.

Residents can learn more about the preliminary budget at upcoming budget meetings this spring. The next Budget Review Session will be held as part of the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Green Meadow Gymnasium.
