Green Meadow Elementary School celebrated its annual Caring Day on Monday by making fabric kits that will be turned into quilts for children facing serious illness and other trauma. The program, organized by the Character Ed Committee, brought the nonprofit Quilts for Kids and its local chapter leader Karen Casey to school so all students could participate in the fun and engaging activity.
Throughout the day, each class visited the Band Room where they chose from colorful pieces of fabric and assembled quilt kits. Those kits will get turned into quilts by Quilts for Kids sewers and then given to children at Albany Medical Center and the Ronald McDonald House.
The students assembled more than 200 kits on Tuesday.
“The students did an amazing job,” said Green Meadow Art Teacher Karli Powers who is a member of the Character Ed Committee. “Green Meadow would like to thank the talented Karen Casey for her time and hard work cutting thousands of pieces of fabric and organizing the whole day. We are proud to be a part of the great organization Quilts for Kids.”
