Green Meadow Elementary School hosted a patriotic Flag Day ceremony in front of the school on Wednesday morning as the stars and stripes were lowered and raised by members of VFW Post 7337. Students and staff watched quietly as the flag was lowered and folded properly. A new American flag was then raised.
Once the flag reached the top of the flagpole, students and staff applauded and the VFW members saluted the flag waving in the breeze.
The school’s old flag was presented to Teaching Assistant Carol Clifford who is retiring at the end of the school year. During the ceremony, she recited a poem titled “The American Flag,” which was written by her mother Marion Schoonbeck as a child.
The event was organized by Green Meadow Student Council.
