School Budget Vote and Board Election - May 21

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a school budget for 2024-25 that maintains all programs and services with a 0.55% tax levy increase, which is within the NYS Property Tax Cap. Residents will also vote on a $116 million capital project that would improve school facilities and grounds across the district with no impact to local taxpayers, the replacement of eight school buses, which if approved by voters, will be fully paid for by the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund, and elect three individuals to the Board of Education.

Columbia students visiting a pre-k classroom at St. Anne Institute in Albany as part of their annual holiday visit.

In a heartwarming display of holiday spirit, students from Columbia High School helped create an unforgettable experience for the preschool students at St. Anne Institute on Thursday morning by bringing them holiday gifts and visiting with them in their classrooms.

“It was an incredibly touching moment to witness these students come together with such enthusiasm and kindness,” said Richard Hucke, CEO from St. Anne Institute.

The initiative kicked off with a shopping spree where the Columbia students handpicked thoughtful gifts for the 38 preschoolers at St. Anne Institute. With care and consideration, they chose presents that would bring smiles to the young faces. There were dolls, toys, blocks, action figures, racecars and clothes.

“Their dedication and thoughtfulness in selecting gifts tailored to each child’s interests truly warmed our hearts,” said Stephanie Schafer, Program Administrator for the St. Anne Institute preschool program.

Following the shopping excursion, the students showcased their creativity by expertly wrapping each gift, infusing them with love and care. The culmination of their efforts was the heartwarming moment when they presented the beautifully wrapped gifts to the preschool students, creating an atmosphere brimming with joy and excitement.

The collaborative endeavor between these students not only brightened the holiday season for the preschoolers but also fostered a sense of unity and goodwill among the schools involved.

“This was our 25th annual gift exchange with the preschool students of Saint Anne Institute,” said Christine Kawczak, Columbia math teacher and Cheerleading coach. “Our cheerleaders and Columbia High School students look forward to this trip annually, as it’s one of the highlights of their year. This heartwarming endeavor of generosity is truly what the holiday season is all about!”
