School Budget Vote and Board Election - May 21

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a school budget for 2024-25 that maintains all programs and services with a 0.55% tax levy increase, which is within the NYS Property Tax Cap. Residents will also vote on a $116 million capital project that would improve school facilities and grounds across the district with no impact to local taxpayers, the replacement of eight school buses, which if approved by voters, will be fully paid for by the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund, and elect three individuals to the Board of Education.

Columbia High School has published its 2024-25 Program of Studies to assist students and families with course selections for the upcoming year. Counselors will meet individually with students in January and February to complete course selection. Below is the schedule for each grade level to meet with counselors.

Students will attend course selection during their English classes:

  • Juniors: January 9 – January 12
  • Freshmen: January 29 – February 2
  • Sophomores: February 5 – February 9

Before meeting with the counselor, teachers will offer recommendations for core subjects, based on the students’ current performance.

It is important to consider the following points:

  • Core content placement for the 2024-25 school year is subject to final performance in classes.
  • All students are required to schedule 5.5 credits each year and should come prepared with electives they are interested in.
  • Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities are available for students entering their junior and senior years. Parents should receive information from Questar regarding these opportunities.
  • After completing course selection for each grade level, an email will be sent to families to review the selections. Please contact your counselor to make any desired changes.
  • The deadline to request course changes is July 1, 2024.
  • The deadline for making level changes is August 1, 2024.

To aid in planning for course selection, review the 2024-25 Program of Studies and the 2024-25 Planning Sheet. Students are encouraged to bring the Planning Sheet to their course selection meeting.
