Columbia High School Participation in Government classes hosted their Legislative Lobby Day on Thursday in the school auditorium with students presenting their bills to classmates. Projects included ones specific to the East Greenbush Central School District, such as a new stairway for Columbia and accessible playground equipment for all elementary schools, as well as nationally relevant topics such as retiring the penny and amending the Family Medical Leave Act.
The winning project, voted on by students, was Free Lunches for All Students Nationwide. It was presented by Izabella Temkin ’24.
“Kids get a better education when they are fed properly,” she said. “You cannot learn on an empty stomach.”
Temkin said she will be joining the East Greenbush CSD Advocacy Committee in its efforts to obtain additional funding to provide free school meals to all students.
