Columbia High School celebrated its January Students of the Month last week. Each student winner was nominated by a teacher or staff member for various categories such as Academics, Citizenship and Most Improved. Congratulations!
Saige Keenholts (Grade 9)
Nominated by: M. Asenbauer for Academics & Citizenship
“Saige is a hardworking, enthusiastic young woman who always has a positive attitude and a smile to share with everyone. She includes her peers in conversations during class discussions and doesn’t hesitate to ask questions at any time.”
Manyata Madan (Grade 10)
Nominated by: J. Amos for Academics
“Manya has achieved an unprecedented 100 average on lab reports during this last quarter in Honors Chemistry. This represents a large volume of work, as well as excellent communication skills and understanding. I don’t recall any student achieving this before. Additionally, Manya has spent the past four months working hard every day on her Science Olympiad events, teaching herself to program a robot and understand the physics of light.”
Ryan Mall (Grade 11)
Nominated by: L. Johnas, A. DiBacco, K. Morrow for Most Improved & Citizenship
“Ryan is an all around great student. He is a helpful, supportive classmate. He has helped staff without being asked. He is always kind and caring and willing to help others. In class he works hard, participates in class discussions and has really shown an improvement there as well. Ryan makes Columbia a better place. When a staff person tripped, Ryan immediately helped her up.”
Jack Pollard (Grade 12)
Nominated by: P. Farnan & J. Amos for Citizenship
“Jack helped to organize a review session for freshmen. He created a ‘booklet’ review game to use with students after school to help them prepare for their midterm. He finished his booklet by the deadline despite having his wisdom teeth pulled that day.
“Jack was a huge help with our Science Olympiad invitational this year. Though he is not on the team or a member of the club, he organized the Science National Honor Society to bring five volunteers to our event and help out throughout the day. We wouldn’t have had nearly such a successful event without his help. He also offered his personal time to assist coaches from another school to set up and run the Chemistry Lab event during the competition for 35 different teams. He’s a great student and was a huge help!”
Bella Sano (Grade 12)
Nominated by: F. Rudofsky for Citizenship
“With the help of her mother and grandmother, Bella cooked homemade Italian meals from scratch that raised over $2,000 for research. It was an enormous endeavor, and she did it with grace and good will!”
