Columbia High School students learned about important health and wellness topics last week as part of Health Awareness Week. They attended presentations – led by doctors, trainers and law enforcement agents – in the school auditorium during their Physical Education classes.
The presentations provided a comprehensive view of health and wellness topics, with special attention given to mental health and the impact of social media.
Health Awareness Week Topics:
- Mental Health, Mindset and Wellness – Jason Spector, Catamount Consulting, LLC
- Healthy Decision Making, Social Media and Violent Crimes Against Children – Special Agent Tim Coleman, FBI
- Digital Citizenship – Officer Ed Ashley, East Greenbush Police Department
- Impact of Social Media on Mental Health – Eric Kussin, Founder of #SameHereGlobal
- Nutrition – Dr. Theresa DeLorenzo, Owner and Founder of Nutrition for Optimal Performance

- Mental Health, Mindfulness, Meditation and Body Image – Dr. Holly Serrao, Capital Area Psychological Services
“Overall the 2024 CHS PE & Health Awareness Week was a huge success,” said Physical Education Department Chair Chris Hosley. “Our goal was to bring meaningful presentations to our student body that created an engaging atmosphere educating our students on real life topics they face on a daily basis. Our Columbia PE and Health staff did a great job working together to make this year a success.”
