Columbia High School and Howard L. Goff Middle School celebrated World Language Week earlier this month with a variety of activities, events and displays.
- The morning announcements at Columbia were spoken in French on Monday, German on Tuesday, Spanish on Wednesday, Norwegian on Thursday and Mandarin Chinese on Friday.
- The Columbia display case adjacent to the main office was decorated with cultural items and the lobby was decorated with flags and language posters.
- World Language teachers at both Goff and Columbia wore shirts that said “Learn a Language, Share a Culture, Change the World.”
- Classroom activities included language trivia contests, playing of cultural music, watching language movies, having a French breakfast and making authentic French t-shirts.
- The morning announcements at Goff shared fun facts and included a Fun Friday trivia quiz.
- The Goff front display case featured student work and materials from other countries.
- Goff hung paper chains in the lobby, with each link signed by a world language student. The chains were in the colors of different world flags and helped to show that “languages link us together.”
Special thanks to the World Language teachers for organizing these activities!
