Whitewater rafting in Costa Rica

Columbia High School students and teachers rafting in Costa Rica over Spring Recess.

More than two dozen Columbia High School students went on a field trip to Costa Rica over Spring Recess, learning about its rich biodiversity and a different culture. Students swam in the Pacific Ocean, visited the rainforest and saw an active volcano.

The students were accompanied by chaperones that included Science Teacher Greg Tarkos, Social Studies Teacher Daniel Wagner and Spanish Teacher Siobhan Kennedy.

Students shared the following reflections at the end of the field trip:

  • (To our tour guide Becky) “Thank you for being gracious enough to share your knowledge and love for your country of Costa Rica. It has been an amazing experience…one that I will never forget.  I am very grateful to have had this experience. Thank you so much!”
  • “When will I ever be able to see an active volcano again? This is amazing. The coolest thing I’ve ever experienced.”
  • “I have had more fun in the last nine days than I have in the last nine years.”
