The following letter was sent to K-12 parents via email on Monday, June 21.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we come to the close of the third year of the program, we continue to be amazed at how useful and needed the chromebooks were to our students and families, and we want to communicate with you regarding your child’s chromebook over the summer months.  Please refer to the table below for directions regarding your student’s chrome tablet or chromebook.

GRADE SUMMER INSTRUCTIONS
Incoming Kindergarten Will be issued a chrome tablet when school starts.  Exact date is not known yet.
Incoming First Grade (currently Kindergarten) Will keep chrome tablets or chrome books from this year and return to school with them next year.
Incoming Second Grade (currently Grade 1) Will keep chrome tablets or chrome books from this year and return to school with them next year.
Incoming Third Grade (Currently Grade 2) Will hand their chrome tablet into their teacher by June 23rd.  New chromebooks will be given to this grade level in September.
Incoming Fourth Grade (Currently Grade 3) Will keep chromebooks from this year and return to school with them next year.
Incoming Fifth Grade (Currently 4th Grade) Will keep chromebooks from this year and return to school with them next year.
Incoming Grade 6 through Incoming Grade 12 Will keep chromebooks from this year and return to school with them next year.

Our experience has shown that It is a good idea to make sure that the device is used every couple of weeks and the battery is kept charged.  When the battery is fully charged, please unplug the charger for safety.  Please do not use the device for playing games or activities that are not educational.  The extra wear and tear on the device will shorten the life of the unit.

Graduating?

Graduating seniors must return the chromebook issued to them either on June 18th or June 21st as instructed by Columbia High School.  Seniors may return the chromebook and power cord to the Library on either of those days prior to receiving a cap and gown.

Leaving the District?

Any student who is leaving the district must return the chromebook or chrome tablet together with the power cord to their school by June 23rd.  If you are unable to return it to the school, please return it to the District Administrative Office in Genet Elementary School on Route 4.

Summer School Students

If your child will be attending summer school this year, please be prepared to bring the unit to school every day (except grade 2).

Remote Students

All of the above directions also apply to currently remote students.

Trouble with a Chromebook or Chrome tablet?

If you experience a problem with the chromebook over the summer, you can send an email to Peter Goodwin, our Director of Technology at goodwinpe@egcsd.org.

The district will continue this program for the 2021-2022 academic year for grades K through 12.

Our students will continue to receive access to top notch web-based resources, high quality on-line content, and socially-based learning techniques. In short, students will continue to make use of a very valuable tool for learning.

Sincerely,

James McHugh
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
