School Budget Vote and Board Election - May 21

The East Greenbush CSD has proposed a school budget for 2024-25 that maintains all programs and services with a 0.55% tax levy increase, which is within the NYS Property Tax Cap. Residents will also vote on a $116 million capital project that would improve school facilities and grounds across the district with no impact to local taxpayers, the replacement of eight school buses, which if approved by voters, will be fully paid for by the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund, and elect three individuals to the Board of Education.

DPS students at Odyssey of the Mind competitionThe East Greenbush Central School District is looking for coaches (parents, guardians, teachers) who are interested in participating in the creative problem-solving program Odyssey of the Mind. Free training will be provided to coaches who are interested in forming a team.

A coaches interest meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. (via zoom). Please email Julie Adadjo at AdadjoJu@egcsd.org by October 6 to be invited to that virtual meeting so you can learn more about Odyssey of the Mind.

What is Odyssey of the Mind?

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition for students of all ages. Teams of students select a problem, create a solution, then present their solution in a competition against other teams in the same problem and division. Here are some of the basics of participation:

  • Students work in teams of up to seven members under the guidance of an adult coach or coaches.
  • Teams spend weeks or months, at their own pace, creating solutions to long-term problems.
  • Team members come up with all the ideas for their solution and do all the work themselves. Coaches may help teach skills and educate the team on ways of approaching the problem and of evaluating their solution.
  • In March 2024, teams present their long-term problem solution in competition, along with a spontaneous problem to solve on site. It’s a fun filled day where families are invited to attend.

Why Odyssey of the Mind?

  • Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program that engages students in their learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to come to life in an exciting, productive environment.
  • Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, create new friendships, and are able to recognize and explore their true potential.
  • Odyssey of the Mind proves that students can have fun while they learn.

If you are interested in joining Odyssey of the Mind, please contact Julie Adadjo at AdadjoJu@egcsd.org. A ZOOM conference will be held on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. The link will be sent to all who request it.
