This season, the Columbia Varsity and JV Cheer Teams made history! Both teams participated in the inaugural season of a new style of competitive cheerleading, Game Day.
Game Day is a competition that celebrates traditional cheerleading. It gives teams a forum to compete in categories that reflect what they do on the sidelines to engage crowd involvement and demonstrate school traditions. Each routine consists of a Band Dance, Situational Sideline, Time-Out Cheer, and a Fight Song.
During their regular Section 2 season, Varsity Cheer took home both first place in Varsity Class A and Grand Champion awards at every Game Day Cheerleading Competition that they attended. These competitions include the Bison Battle, Spartan Shakedown, and Mohon MatchUp. The Grand Champion Award is given to the team with the highest score for the entire competition, without regard to their division.
This is the first time in Columbia Cheerleading history that the Varsity team went undefeated in their regular Section 2 season and are a State Qualifier representing Section 2 in the Varsity Class A division.
The Columbia Varsity Cheerleading team will make their way to Binghamton to compete on Sunday, November 5 at the inaugural NYSPHSAA Game Day Cheerleading State Championship.
Come support your Blue Devils cheerleaders at the Visions Federal Credit Union Veterans Memorial Arena (1 Stuart Street Binghamton, NY 13901). The Varsity Class A division begins at 11:45 a.m.
