Travelers at the Joseph L. Bruno Rail Station in Rensselaer were treated to a surprise holiday concert on Friday morning as they waited for trains and said farewell to family and friends. The performance of Holiday Brass Caroling was provided by Columbia High School band students.
Accompanied by music teachers Scott Halliday and Jonathan Kusche and student teacher Maddie Fitzgerald, the students performed carols from an elevated terrace in the main lobby, adorned with wreaths and a Christmas tree.
The concert featured many holiday favorites such as Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, O Come All Ye Faithful and Feliz Navidad.
Passengers in the lobby could be seen taking photos and videos of the performance. And customers at the Post Office, which is located inside the train station, lingered before and after their transactions to listen to the music. One woman expressed joy in between songs, saying “I just came here to mail a package.” She asked where the group was from and smiled when she was told Columbia High School.
