Dr. Kurtis Kotes

Dr. Kurtis Kotes is the Superintendent of Schools in the East Greenbush Central School District. He was appointed by the Board of Education on April 24, 2025 and officially started on July 1, 2025.

Dr. Kotes brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership. He has served as a Superintendent of Schools for the past seven years. He also has experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Social Studies Teacher.

“Every day, I try to remember that creating relationships for administration, faculty, staff, students, and family members is what truly matters,” Dr. Kotes said. “As Superintendent of the East Greenbush Central School District, I will endeavor to always make this a cornerstone of my work, striving to earn the trust and respect of all those I work with and serve on a daily basis. I hope that my presence and involvement in our school community and community at large will serve as an indicator of my commitment!”

Professional Accomplishments

  • Seven years of experience serving as a Superintendent of Schools.
  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of a Strategic Plan in Goshen CSD. This was created through a collaborative stakeholder process, allowing for all voices to have input on the mission and direction of the school district. This document is commonly referred to during major initiative work by the leadership of the district.
  • Dr. Kotes prepared and presented to the community a $10 million dollar capital improvement project which was approved by the Goshen CSD community. The project requires no additional borrowing as it is financed using capital reserve funding and federal grant monies. This work will upgrade and enhance the HVAC systems in the K-2 building and complete a full roof refurbishment.
  • Engaged with community partners to create a career internship program that fostered relationships for students that might be college bound, trade school bound or seeking to enter the workforce.
  • Facilitation of stakeholder meetings with High School Principal during research on Advanced Placement Capstone Project and International Baccalaureate Program.
  • Planned and budgeted for expansion of Advanced Placement offerings at the high school level.
  • Facilitation of staff research and implementation of new K-5 STEMScopes science curriculum.
  • Engagement with Tri-State Consortium of Schools for district-wide systematic review of K-5 writing and literacy programs.

Dr. Kotes holds New York State Permanent Certifications as a School District Administrator, School Administrator and Supervisor K-12, and in Social Studies K-12.
