The East Greenbush Central School District presented an updated version of its preliminary school budget for 2023-24 at Wednesday evening’s Board of Education meeting in the Green Meadow gymnasium. The school budget total was decreased to $108,812,882 and the tax levy increase was cut in half from 1.0% to 0.5%.

The district has averaged a 0.5% tax levy increase over the past three years (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23) and has kept taxes flat the last two years.

The preliminary budget maintains all current programs and services, and includes staffing additions, technology upgrades, facility improvements and funding to continue the Pre-K Program.

Superintendent Jeff Simons led the presentation which included school highlights, descriptions of the revised budget, impacts on the taxpayer and details about the budget vote.

“We anticipate that the board will adopt the final budget on April 25 as we hope that the state budget will be completed by then,” said Mr. Simons. “We can make adjustments based on continued feedback we receive from our board and community.”

In addition to the school budget, voters will decide on a proposition for school bus replacements out of the Bus Purchase Reserve Fund and select three members for the Board of Education.

The Budget Vote and Board Election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16.

Residents can learn more about the preliminary budget at upcoming budget meetings this spring. The next Budget Review Session will be held as part of the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bell Top gymnasium.
