Water Quality Testing

In September 2016, New York State passed legislation that mandates school districts test water for lead contamination. Water received from municipal water sources is tested on a regular basis for contaminants such as lead. However, testing individual fixtures in schools has shown that lead from piping, solder, or fixtures can leach into the water in small amounts after it has entered the building and prior to consumption.

Any outlets above 15 parts per billion of lead must be remediated and resampled. Remediation efforts include running the water from affected outlets to flush the system, replacement of fixtures, filters and in some cases piping, installation of bottle fillers, and other renovations as part of our current capital project.

The East Greenbush Central School District conducted water quality testing in Fall 2016 and Spring 2021.
