The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) announced this week that “low-risk” and “moderate-risk” fall sports practices may begin on September 21. Football, cheer and volleyball, which are classified as “high-risk” sports have been postponed until March 1, 2021 to address membership concerns associated with high-risk fall sports.
The Columbia All Sports Club will be hosting a Welcome Back Chicken BBQ on Sunday, September 27 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Schodack Town Hall parking lot. Each dinner costs $12 and includes a ½ chicken, baked potato with butter and sour cream, coleslaw, a dinner roll and dessert.
All students, staff, families, alumni and community members are invited to participate in the 19th annual Teal Ribbon Run for Ovarian Cancer Research on Sunday, September 13 at the East Greenbush Town Park. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will have options for a physically distanced run, walk, boot camp or bicycle ride. You may attend the actual event at the town park, which will comply with CDC guidelines, or participate virtually on your own.
Columbia was selected as a School of Excellence Award winner on Tuesday by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for having 75% of its varsity teams earn Scholar-Athlete Awards in 2019-20 (90% GPA or above).
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) announced on Thursday that the Fall 2020 sports season would be delayed, the Fall 2020 Regional and State Championships would be canceled and they would prepare to implement a condensed season schedule in January 2021 if high school sports remain prohibited throughout 2020 due to COVID-19. This decision comes at the recommendation of the NYSPHSAA COVID-19 Task Force.
